What is Ready for Life Brevard?

Ready for Life Brevard (RFLB), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a youth driven solution-based skill center that helps teens and young adults avoid homelessness and crime by removing barriers to their education and employment utilizing lifeline support networks.

RFLB is very grateful to our founding community agency partners: Brevard Family Partnership (BFP), Brevard's lead child welfare agency; The Brevard Youth Leadership Council (BYLC); and SMILE for Budgie, Inc. (SMILE). SMILE developed and manages the BYLC with support from BFP and others. The BYLC is a leadership board organized to give youth “voice and choice” to impact policy and practice in the system of care.   The BYLC with the Brevard Youth Thrive Action Committee partnered with RFLB to develop and launch the pilot mentor program which will provide youth in the system of care ages 15-25 with a mentor.

The Housing Authority of Brevard County collaborated with RFLB to provide young adults who are transitioning out of foster care with access to affordable housing vouchers through the newly created Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Foster Youth to Independence Initiative (FYI). Brevard Health Alliance is providing office space for RFLB at their Sarno Road location.

RFLB fills other critical gaps for youth through its onsite GED FastTrack program, one on one tutoring, mentoring, provision of food, clothes, and personal hygiene supplies through the pantry & clothing closet.  RFLB also provides youth with opportunities to attend a bimonthly youth support group, and monthly life skills classes via Zoom through COVID.

Finally, RFLB does whatever it takes to remove barriers by helping youth who have little to no support, find resources and creative solutions to issues with things like transportation, health care, incomplete records, and job preparedness.

In the very near future once collaboration agreements are finalized and funding is secured, RFLB intends to add onsite mental health counseling, legal services, a healthcare navigator, and parenting/Mommy & Me classes.

We understand that until immediate basic needs are met, it is nearly impossible to contemplate the future...and RFLB believes that all young people are worthy of equal opportunities for a successful future.
